HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Ihitte Ezinihitte Secondary Technical School (IESTS), Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, Imo State

The Conception (1978 – 1979)

Ihitte Ezinihitte Secondary Technical School (IESTS), situated in Ihitte within Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, was established in 1979. The conception of the school started some time in the eves of 1978, from worthy Ihitte compatriots who envisioned an institution that would offer young boys and girls both sound academic training and practical technical competencies.

The Ihitte Education Committee (16th December 1978)

On the 16th of December 1978, a seven-man committee was officially formed and designated as the "Ihitte Education Committee". The distinguished committee members were:

1
Late Sir C. I. Opara
Chairman
2
Nze A. D. Onunekwu
3
Mr. A. A. Ezurike
4
Nze P. U. Onwunali
5
Mr. D. U. Imoh
6
Mr. J. O. Obi
7
Mr. R. O. Ibeh

These patriots worked assiduously on the idea and their proposals were unanimously adopted by the community.

Location & Conducive Land

Good spirited people out of great enthusiasm freely donated their lands for this noble purpose. The School is situated strategically at the serene boundaries of Umuokeriri, Obiaka, Umuchihie, and Amukwuokoromiri, offering a tranquil and conducive atmosphere optimal for rigorous mental and physical learning.

Structures & Community Labour

The first classroom block of the school was constructed through direct communal labour; this building today serves as the administrative block, as the zeal and enthusiasm across Ihitte at the time was unprecedented.

In that same year (1979), the Ihitte Youth Congress (IYC) built the second block. The third block came into existence through the collective effort of the entire Ihitte populace facilitated with proceeds from Iwu Nkwu, community levies, and freewill donations. All architectural designs and works were meticulously executed by Sir Ben Oguh.

Approval & Official Takeoff (7th January 1980)

The Ihitte Education Committee sought formal approval for the commencement of academic activities, led by Late Eze N. N. Anyanwu (Ogbodudu 1 of Ihitte). Joining him in this crucial endeavour was the board of governors/trustees under the guidance of Late Eze B. N. Amaechi (Prime Minister then), Late Chief J. A. Nwakama, Late Nze L. O. Ndukwe, Sir G. U. Onwumere, Sir G. N. Alozie, and other respected community stakeholders.

On 7th January 1980, academic activities of the school took off in earnest with a pioneer student population of 30 students and pioneering staff.
